PU
Day1: Huh, there's a dead skunk out on the road near the house. Can't even smell it it. Cool.
Day 2: Uh-oh. Can you smell that? Egads, I hope its just the dead skunk and not a different one.
Day3: Same skunk, still stinky. Somebody just keeps shmucking it as they drive by... stirring up the stink.
Day 4: Even stinkier than a skunk, is a 4 day-dead skunk smeared all over wet dog. ^%$ing dog!

Yes, I still work around the farm!
I just get up early, get the chores done, then enjoy the afternoon on the lake. See...
critters first...
layers, and Randy the Rooster, and ducks
then the broilers...
then a morning 'hello' to the belties
LAZY DAY!
2 days ago she wouldn't even go in the water.
Dock expanded, huge shade umbrella bolted on, ladder installed.
Built to endure this many kids!!

Farm-Schmarm!
Today is the first real day of summer vacation (for reals - as Evan says).
AM- garden/farm,
MID- garden,
PM-garden/lake!!
We put the dock in on Sunday, 4 of 8 pieces at least, and got to enjoy it tonight with the kids. We brought Grandma Penny's picnic basket and the diggity-dogs and everyone went swimming. We even saw 2 loons swim by - which made the whole evening.

Fashion - Mainah' Style!
Flew a kite, enjoyed the sun, weeded garden, erected pole bean trellis - Chance style- with huge cedar posts. If a tornado hits, the garden will be toast except for the trellis....

Newest Arrival
With amazing ease Ginger and Gilligan arrived this morning.
Scot and Chris trailered them to the farm, and gave us lots of words of advice, encouragement, and tips to Grace, and were off again. It was much like leaving the hospital with your newborn - scary !
We survived the day, as did the cows. The whole family (except the mother ship) crashed into bed at 9 pm in order to get up early tomorrow to pick up 2 more cows... it could be scarier than the first night home with the newborn...

Lookie Here Popeye!
I have read and re-read Elliot Coleman's, Winter Harvest Book and was sold on the idea until it got cold - and the idea of carrying one more bucket of water...I had just had enough for the year, so when the snow dropped last Fall I said goodbye to my attempt at "winter greens". BUT, low and behold, the blanket of snow did just that, it preserved my greens through our winter, and here we are in March enjoying fresh greens and spinach. Wahoo!

Belted Galloways
Sweet Fresca!
Grace and Ginger. Plastic ring is a weaning tool, not permanent.
Ginger hasn't learned to push Evan around yet, Grace will teach her to do that!
Fresca, again, trying to eat Grace's hat...
A trio of trouble in my future...Ginger and Gilligan (photo shy) are coming to Heritage Hill Farm to live this Spring. We got them from MoonShadow farm in Starks.

Oh Christmas Tree...
For whatever reason, this year we didn't venture down to our enchanted forest to get a tree. It may have been the late snow arrival, the cows, the electric fence, or maybe it was just our way of supporting the local economy and BUYING LOCAL!

Anywhooo, we had a fun time, with a beautiful selection. Trying to get 2 kids to agree on the same tree was the hardest part, although there may have been a dis-agreeable adult in the group too, but I won't name any names, Chance.
oh yeah, I was there too...
Why you don't wait for snow to move cows....
How many trucks does it take to get 8 cows out of a pasture?

He may be uber strong (in his own mind..)
A real power horse is needed to move this load

up, up
and away they go!
We'll call this group if Santa gets stuck this year...
